Our printed letterheads are produced lithographically or Digital TruePress and therefore compatible with laser printers. We do not recommend digitally printed letterheads as these cannot be over printed with a toner based laser printer.

UK letterhead Legal Requirements

Occasionally, businesses show all their concern for the design of the printed letterhead and overlook the important legal requirements for what must be displayed on a business letterhead for a UK Limited Company.

Make sure your business letterhead content is correct from the start to avoid costly artwork changes and re-prints.

You must include:

your company’s name
the company’s registered number
the company’s registered office address
the country of registration (England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland)
the fact that it’s a limited company (the company’s full name including ‘Limited’ or ‘Ltd’)
If you want to include directors’ names, you must list all of them.

State if you are trading under a different name to that of the registered company featured.

Many companies use their printed letterhead for invoices and estimates. Therefore, you must display the VAT number if the company is VAT registered.

Continuation Paper

There are instances when your letter or document requires several pages. The pages after the initial letterhead tend to be printed on sheets containing less information. As a result, the whole presentation has a more professional level. For this reason, contact details and company information maybe omitted. Consequently, the logo from the letterhead is often only item featured on the page.

Continuation paper allows you the convey your corporate style throughout the document without the visual clutter from the mandatory letterhead details. Printed to the same specification as the letterhead.

Compliment Slips

A compliment slip is a single sided slip of paper that is used to present the same contact details as the letterhead. The additional details such as company registration information or VAT number are left off.

The words “with compliment” or similar greetings are pre-printed on to the slips, or simply left blank. For this reason, you can casually add a hand written message or greeting as required. Consequently, compliment slips maybe enclosed with other documents when posted rather than using a formal letterhead. Hence, they are a very versatile and informal way to share your company details.

We can produce compliment slips to any relevant size but are generally 1/3 A4 (210mm x 99mm).

There are many instances when you don’t require a physical printed letterhead such as sending a document by email. Similarly, you will want your email version to mirror you printed letterheads without all the hassle of printing out and then rescanning your letters. We can provide your letterhead as a word template for you convenience. We don’t use Microsoft Word for producing our print-ready artwork but can convert the final design into a high quality template that is perfect for generating screen quality PDFs.
